About PJ Poultry Ltd.

PJ Poultry Ltd. is an Ontario-based specialized poultry hatchery service provider. Our business focuses on professional chick sexing and defined hatch-day operations support at client hatchery facilities.

Job Description

Chick sexing is a highly skilled production function that requires trained sexers to make rapid, accurate decisions while safely handling live chicks. Because sexing methods and visual indicators vary by breed, genetic line, and hatchery protocol, competent performance requires practical training, supervised repetition, regular accuracy checks, and ongoing quality review.

To maintain our standards, these requirements must be applied consistently across large numbers of chicks, regardless of hatch day, breed, or production-line conditions. Speed must be balanced with careful handling, close attention to chick condition, and strict compliance with animal-care and biosecurity procedures. Any discrepancies or concerns must be identified and reported before chicks are counted, packed, or moved to the next stage.

Job Duties

·      Determine the sex of day-old chicks using vent sexing, wing-feather sexing, and visible breed-specific characteristics, as applicable to the breed.

·      Handle chicks safely and carefully while maintaining sexing accuracy and meeting production requirements.

·      Assess chick condition and identify and separate weak, unhealthy, or physically abnormal chicks in accordance with established hatchery procedures and animal-care standards.

·      Count, weigh, and pack chicks, checking quantities and chick condition before dispatch.

·      Maintain accurate records of chick counts, culls, and other assigned production activities, and report discrepancies or concerns.

·      Clean and disinfect work areas and equipment in accordance with hatchery sanitation and biosecurity procedures.

·      Follow workplace safety, animal-care, and biosecurity requirements throughout all assigned duties.
