The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating industrial construction projects from planning through construction, commissioning, handover and closeout.

The position manages construction activities involving aggregate and mineral processing plants, material handling systems, equipment installation, civil works, mechanical and electrical installation, plant modifications and related industrial infrastructure. The Construction Manager establishes project plans, budgets, schedules and milestones; coordinates contractors, suppliers and internal resources; administers contracts and procurement; monitors costs and progress; and ensures safe, timely and quality construction.


Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects in accordance with approved schedules, specifications, budgets and contractual requirements.

• Develop construction execution plans, schedules, milestones, resource plans, work breakdown structures and construction sequencing.

• Prepare and monitor project budgets, cost estimates, forecasts, cash-flow projections and project-control baselines.

• Plan and monitor construction schedules, including daily, weekly and monthly lookahead planning, progress measurement and corrective actions.

• Direct and coordinate civil, earthworks, structural, mechanical, material handling and electrical construction activities.

• Coordinate site readiness, contractor mobilization, permits, access, lifting requirements, shutdown activities and construction work fronts.

• Prepare, review and administer construction contracts and participate in negotiating revisions, changes and additions with clients, consultants, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.

• Engage, coordinate and supervise contractors, subcontractors, fabricators, suppliers and project personnel, establishing scopes of work, responsibilities and performance expectations.

• Coordinate procurement of construction materials and fabricated equipment, including enquiries, supplier evaluations, purchasing, delivery schedules and invoice verification.

• Coordinate engineering and construction interfaces and review drawings, specifications, fabrication details, vendor documentation and technical requirements.

• Establish and monitor construction quality-control procedures, inspections and deficiency reviews to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, contracts and applicable standards.

• Monitor costs, schedules, productivity, procurement, fabrication, contractor performance and field progress; identify variances, delays and construction constraints and implement corrective actions.

• Prepare construction progress reports, updated schedules, cost forecasts and project performance information for clients and senior management.

• Conduct pre-construction, contractor coordination and progress meetings to establish requirements, resolve constraints and coordinate project participants.

• Manage project changes and assess scope, technical, contractual, cost, schedule and risk impacts before implementation.

• Identify construction risks and implement appropriate mitigation, recovery and corrective-action plans.

• Supervise on-site construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with schedules, specifications and quality requirements.

• Coordinate construction safety with contractors, subcontractors and clients and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, site procedures and client standards.

• Coordinate construction completion, commissioning support, deficiency correction, turnover documentation, handover and project closeout.

• Maintain effective communication with clients, engineering, plant operations, maintenance, contractors, suppliers, consultants, procurement and senior management throughout project delivery.

✅ Education Requirements

• Post-secondary education in engineering, construction technology, project management or another related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of extensive industrial construction experience and education.

✅ Regulatory & Certification Requirements

• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

✅ Other Requirements

• Significant construction management experience involving industrial, mining, aggregates, minerals processing, chemical, petrochemical, infrastructure or similar capital projects. • Demonstrated experience managing construction projects involving multidisciplinary civil, structural, mechanical and electrical work. • Strong experience in construction planning, contractor and subcontractor management, scheduling, cost control, procurement, contract administration, project controls and construction reporting. • Demonstrated experience managing projects through construction, commissioning, start-up, handover and closeout. • Experience coordinating equipment fabrication, suppliers, construction contractors and multidisciplinary technical teams. • Strong knowledge of construction safety, quality control, risk management, change management and project cost and schedule controls. • Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts and technical documentation. • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, negotiation and problem-solving abilities. • Experience managing construction projects in aggregate processing, mining, mineral processing or other heavy industrial environments is considered a strong asset.
