Position Summary
The Production Engineering Technologist provides technical and engineering support for the development, implementation, control and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, production systems and equipment.
The position analyzes production workflows, equipment performance, quality results and operational data to identify inefficiencies and develop technical solutions that improve productivity, reliability, quality and manufacturing consistency and maintains manufacturing procedures, production support tools, equipment configurations, jigs and fixtures, workflow automation and technical documentation used in the company's manufacturing operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, monitor and continuously improve manufacturing processes, production methods and workflows to improve productivity, equipment utilization, product quality and operational consistency.
- Conduct production and workflow studies by reviewing equipment performance, production times, material movement, process sequences, operator requirements, bottlenecks and quality results.
- Collect, compile and analyze production and operational data to identify inefficiencies, recurring failures, quality issues and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and implement manufacturing procedures, process specifications, equipment settings, work instructions, standard operating procedures and production-control documentation.
- Develop, configure, test, optimize and troubleshoot manufacturing processes involving industrial UV digital printing systems, laser processing equipment, RIP systems and associated production technologies.
- Establish and optimize machine and equipment parameters, software configurations and production variables to achieve required product specifications, quality standards and production efficiency.
- Design, develop, test and implement production jigs, fixtures, templates, workholding devices and other manufacturing-support solutions used to improve accuracy, repeatability, efficiency and product quality.
- Develop software applications, scripts, automated workflows and production-support tools using Python, Microsoft 365, spreadsheets and related technologies to reduce manual processing, improve data handling and support manufacturing operations.
- Develop and support computer-assisted production processes using design, graphics, RIP and manufacturing software, including Adobe Creative Suite, CorelDRAW, RIIN, Hosonsoft, LightBurn and related applications.
- Develop and conduct production quality-control and quality-assurance procedures, including product and process inspections, specification verification, root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective measures.
- Investigate production, equipment, software and workflow failures; determine root causes and develop technical solutions to minimize production interruptions, errors and rework.
- Assist in evaluating, selecting, installing, configuring, testing and commissioning manufacturing equipment, production technologies and supporting systems.
- Review customer and production specifications and translate technical requirements into appropriate manufacturing processes, equipment settings, workflows and quality-control requirements.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, manufacturing instructions, equipment configuration records, process specifications, SOPs, quality records and continuous-improvement documentation.
- Work with production, engineering, quality assurance, shipping and management personnel to coordinate manufacturing requirements, resolve technical production issues and implement process improvements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel regarding manufacturing procedures, equipment operation, software, quality requirements and newly implemented processes.
✅ Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or college diploma in industrial engineering technology, manufacturing technology, computer engineering, electronics engineering technology, automation, mechatronics, or another engineering or technical discipline related to manufacturing systems and production technology.
✅ Other Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, manufacturing technology, process engineering/optimization, production automation, or a closely related technical production environment.
Technical Requirements
Experience with several of the following:
- manufacturing process development and optimization;
- industrial production equipment configuration and troubleshooting;
- production workflow analysis;
- process automation or scripting;
- quality control and root-cause analysis;
- preparation of SOPs and technical documentation;
- CAD, graphics, RIP or computer-assisted manufacturing software;
- development of jigs, fixtures or production-support systems;
- collection and analysis of production data.
Technical Assets
Experience with Python, Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite, CorelDRAW, LightBurn, RIP software, digital manufacturing systems, UV printing or laser production equipment would be considered an asset.
